Snow Day in Upstate New York

It snowed last night.

Normally, here in upstate NY, that wouldn’t be a big deal. But this has been a unusual winter.
I’m not a big fan of winter most of the time. I’m from North Carolina, where we might have one or two snowfalls a year and the ones we get usually stay around a few days then disappear entirely. Snow in New York often reminds me of the Ben Franklin quote. To paraphrase, “Snow and bad fish, they both stink after three days.”

This winter, for the first time in the 15 years that we’ve lived up here, I’m actually enjoying the winter. The weather has, for the most part, been marvelous (said in my best Billy Crystal voice). Even the snow stays around long enough that we can enjoy it, and then leaves, allowing us to miss it’s presence instead of growing sick of it.

Yes, I’m looking forward to spring and can hardly wait to see the first green stalks pushing up through the ground, but for now, I’ll enjoy the lovely snow day, knowing that spring isn’t far behind.
